Energy Medicine, Nervous System Healing, and the Body’s Hidden Signals - Dr. Sue Morter on Bioenergetics, Breathwork & Self-Healing
[00:00:00] Dr. Sue Morter: Everybody has had the experience of a lump in their throat, tightness in their [00:00:05] chest, a knot in their stomach. These are all symptoms of an energetic [00:00:10] blockage. So think of it this way, an energetic blockage, disregulates, the nervous [00:00:15] system. The nervous system being dysregulated, changes our chemistry, changes our [00:00:20] physiology, changes, our ability to self-heal, and then we end up with.
[00:00:24] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:00:25] Symptoms like digestive problems, allergies, asthmas, pain patterns that don't go [00:00:30] away, anxiety, the digestive system, the respiratory system, the endocrine system [00:00:35] altogether, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system. All of these systems are [00:00:40] built by one master system and that master system. It's the flow of [00:00:45] energy through our body.
[00:00:46] Dr. Taz: My next guest, Dr. Sue Morder, is an international speaker, [00:00:50] master of Bioenergetic Medicine and founder of the Mortar Institute for [00:00:55] bioenergetics. With more than 40 years of clinical experience, she's widely [00:01:00] recognized for her work, bridging energy medicine, neuroscience, and conscious [00:01:05] based performance.
[00:01:05] Dr. Sue Morter: So energy medicine is really talking about the quantum science, the quanta [00:01:10] energy that is smaller than what the eye can see, but even smaller than what [00:01:15] we've, you know, referenced as the atom.
[00:01:16] Dr. Sue Morter: These tiniest particles that our reality is made of [00:01:20] are influenced by our conscious thought. When we can, we can create a vacuum [00:01:25] with just a few randomly placed photons inside this vacuum. We can think a particular [00:01:30] thought in toward that vacuum and the photons rearrange, oh my God. We can think a different [00:01:35] kind of thought, and the photons rearrange accordingly.
[00:01:37] Dr. Sue Morter: Our consciousness, our conscious focus of [00:01:40] our attention. Has an ability to shape shift physical [00:01:45] reality, the power of thought and breath and attention and magnifying. Our [00:01:50] focus has every ability to determine the function of [00:01:55] livers and kidneys and colons and respiration and chemistries and, um, and our [00:02:00] ability, most importantly, to operate as a creative influence in our lives versus.[00:02:05]
[00:02:05] Dr. Sue Morter: Operating on the defense, uh, being a reactor and a victim to the [00:02:10] circumstances that occur.
[00:02:11] Dr. Taz: Through her energy code trainings, body awake yoga programs [00:02:15] and global retreats, she helps individuals shift from chronic stress and [00:02:20] survival patterns into states of coherence, vitality, and embodied [00:02:25] awareness.
[00:02:25] Dr. Taz: Let's welcome Dr. Sue Morder. This episode is sponsored by Whole Plus a [00:02:30] holistic health platform built around education. Personalization and integrative [00:02:35] care. Whole plus blends holistic, integrative and functional medicine clinics [00:02:40] with learning resources like blogs, YouTube videos, and of course this podcast.

[00:03:04] Dr. Taz: Again, [00:03:05] that's HOL
[00:03:06] Dr. Sue Morter: ps.co.
[00:03:08] Dr. Taz: I am so excited about this [00:03:10] topic. Let me tell you why. Because we actually offer and have had [00:03:15] in our practices at Whole Plus, uh, of. A whole section of the practice is devoted [00:03:20] to energy healing and energy medicine.
[00:03:22] Dr. Sue Morter: Wow.
[00:03:22] Dr. Taz: But as a medical doctor, you know, when I'm telling my [00:03:25] patients about this, 'cause I have a methodology by which I'm like, okay, I think you would really benefit, you [00:03:30] know, from doing some work in energy.
[00:03:31] Dr. Taz: I get like the blanks. Yeah. Right. What is that like? You know, what is [00:03:35] she talking about? Okay, now she's doing that woowoo thing that she does every now and then. So I'm, so, I'm [00:03:40] so excited to have you on here because I want people to understand maybe the [00:03:45] science. Behind energy. Mm-hmm. Medicine and energy healing, you know, what it is [00:03:50] and how we need to take it out of the woo woo bucket and put it into the [00:03:55] healing model.
[00:03:55] Dr. Taz: Yeah. Because I know for a fact that, you know, after all these years of working with so [00:04:00] many people and so many patients. People get stuck, you know? Yeah. You can have the most beautiful [00:04:05] diet and supplement plan and medications, and you can do all the surgeries and you can do all the [00:04:10] things, but there's just that thing.
[00:04:11] Dr. Taz: There's that something, something
[00:04:13] Dr. Sue Morter: else
[00:04:13] Dr. Taz: that is not [00:04:15] being answered. Mm-hmm. And, and I feel like it's very important in the healing model. So I'm so excited you're here [00:04:20] today.
[00:04:20] Dr. Sue Morter: Yay.
[00:04:20] Dr. Taz: I'm excited for the audience to learn more about you and your work. And I know you have a book [00:04:25] coming out as well, um, in a, in a few weeks.
[00:04:27] Dr. Taz: So I'm really excited, you know, to learn more about [00:04:30] that. But before we get into all the details mm-hmm. Talk to us about this. What, what is energy [00:04:35] healing? What do we need to be thinking about, you know, and your work in the field? [00:04:40]
[00:04:40] Dr. Sue Morter: So, energy medicine, energy healing is, is [00:04:45] working with the basic foundation of everything.
[00:04:47] Dr. Sue Morter: Everything is energy, [00:04:50] everything. The chair that we're sitting in is energy. It's just compressed energy. We know that in the laws of physics [00:04:55] that all physical matter. Is energy compressed into form and so, so are [00:05:00] our bodies and so are our thoughts, et cetera. They're just, our thoughts are less compressed than our bodies.[00:05:05]
[00:05:05] Dr. Sue Morter: We can change our mind faster than we can change our body kind of thing. So energy [00:05:10] medicine is really about making sure that that energy is flowing through the [00:05:15] human system the way that it's supposed to. If it isn't flowing, if it gets [00:05:20] stuck, we get. Locked up in terms of our symptomatology. Our systems don't [00:05:25] work the way they're designed to digestion, filtering, cleansing, healing.
[00:05:28] Dr. Sue Morter: These things aren't [00:05:30] able to happen when the energy flow is blocked. So it's the same thing that Acupuncture's might [00:05:35] using for thousand of match. Right. I was justing that. Yep. So it's a matter of us recognizing that [00:05:40] we can get involved in getting that energy to flow again, we can enhance. It [00:05:45] ourselves.
[00:05:45] Dr. Sue Morter: With the use of our mind and our body and our breath working together, it begins [00:05:50] to enhance and amplify our true natural state. And that true [00:05:55] natural foundation is energy.
[00:05:57] Dr. Taz: Yeah, it's so interesting 'cause you know, Chinese medicine is. [00:06:00] 5,000 years old. Ayurveda is somewhere around that same age. Mm-hmm.
[00:06:03] Dr. Taz: Homeopathy has been in the [00:06:05] picture, and all of those systems, in addition to many others, talk about energy as a foundation. [00:06:10] And even the basis of Chinese medicine and acupuncture was around energy assessment [00:06:15] and evaluation. Right? Yes. Like, where's your qi? You know, what do we need to do to get the flow of energy [00:06:20] mm-hmm.
[00:06:20] Dr. Taz: To happen again? Where did we lose that? In the Western medical [00:06:25] model, you know, what happened there that we got so far away from it and got down into this very [00:06:30] reductionist way of thinking.
[00:06:31] Dr. Sue Morter: Mm. You know, I think that that one of the things that happens is [00:06:35] we, we in the western world are, are attuned to energies that are more [00:06:40] massive and dense and, and, you know, gross Not in, not in a judgmental way mm-hmm.
[00:06:44] Dr. Sue Morter: But [00:06:45] just in massive amounts of energy. And so when energy shifts big in our lives. [00:06:50] It gets our attention. We talk about the, the cosmic two by four, right? That has to hit us over the head before we start listening [00:06:55] to that inner voice that's been talking all along. And so as we have [00:07:00] developed, uh, an acuity for these more dense energies, we lose [00:07:05] touch with a subtle energy that is behind the scenes.
[00:07:08] Dr. Sue Morter: And that subtle [00:07:10] nuance is truly what allows us to tap into inner wisdom. That [00:07:15] internal guidance that is always there. We just haven't dialed into the frequency where that is [00:07:20] constantly flowing in our lives. Mm-hmm. So, uh, there's a term called Prya hara [00:07:25] in eastern culture that talks about, uh, we need to withdraw our senses back [00:07:30] onto the self and not be so concerned with the outer world, and do I fit [00:07:35] in?
[00:07:35] Dr. Sue Morter: Am I doing it right? Is this. Is this what I'm supposed to be doing? Am I getting approved of am I, you know, [00:07:40] all of the things that keep drawing us into the external world in order to find our [00:07:45] wholeness and to really, uh, allow the integration that's supposed to be [00:07:50] happening all the time. Um, we have to withdraw our attention back inside, not just when we're [00:07:55] in crisis, not just when we're broken open because of some big disappointment in our lives, or a [00:08:00] disillusionment that has us, you know, reeling, but all the time to learn to live.[00:08:05]
[00:08:05] Dr. Sue Morter: Back on the self instead of really being pulled onto the bright, shiny things of life [00:08:10] or, or the big intensive, uh, circumstances of life that pull us [00:08:15] outward.
[00:08:15] Dr. Taz: What would you say to the people that say that? And they've told me this. So, uh, what would you [00:08:20] say that when people say like, energy medicine's not scientific, there's no science behind it, [00:08:25] you know, what's your answer answer to that?
[00:08:27] Dr. Sue Morter: So, you know, I run an an [00:08:30] outcomes based, um, clinic for many, many years. I was in practice beginning in [00:08:35] 1987. I grew up in a family where my father was a pioneer in [00:08:40] energy medicine.
[00:08:40] Dr. Taz: Oh wow.
[00:08:41] Dr. Sue Morter: And so he was working with how energy flows through the body and [00:08:45] how unresolved emotions impact mm-hmm. That energy flow or stop it [00:08:50] and, uh, as I was growing up.
[00:08:52] Dr. Sue Morter: And so consequently, I have never gone to the [00:08:55] doctor, uh, in traditional terms of what we know that to be and gotten a [00:09:00] prescription for a medication for an ailment that I have had.
[00:09:03] Dr. Taz: Wow.
[00:09:03] Dr. Sue Morter: And so. [00:09:05] I know that this works. Mm-hmm. I know that it is a very real thing, [00:09:10] and my patients and clients over the years would definitely attest to that.
[00:09:13] Dr. Sue Morter: It's a, it's a, an experience that [00:09:15] really can't be argued with, and as quantum science has come onto the, [00:09:20] the, uh, scene,
[00:09:21] Dr. Taz: yes.
[00:09:21] Dr. Sue Morter: It is really, really pressing us to embrace. [00:09:25] The power of thought and the power of consciousness and what it does to influence our [00:09:30] reality, uh, not only our internal reality, but our external reality and, and what it [00:09:35] is that we are, um, perceiving.
[00:09:36] Dr. Sue Morter: Where we are coming from is determining the life experience that [00:09:40] we are having.
[00:09:40] Dr. Taz: Hmm.
[00:09:41] Dr. Sue Morter: And so. Science is showing us actually that, [00:09:45] that we have the power to shift the expression of our own DNA it. It [00:09:50] shows us that we have the power to shift even our physical environment by [00:09:55] looking at life at this very subatomic level.
[00:09:58] Dr. Sue Morter: So energy medicine is really [00:10:00] talking about the quantum science, the quanta energy that is. Smaller than [00:10:05] what the eye can see, but even smaller than what we've, you know, referenced as the atom. We used to think the [00:10:10] atom was the tiniest particle of, of our reality. And then, you know, the electron [00:10:15] microscope shows us that no, there's actually a whole world going on inside of an atom.
[00:10:18] Dr. Sue Morter: There's, there's subatomic [00:10:20] particles that are making all that happen. And when we get small enough in that study, [00:10:25] we can see that, that these tiniest particles that our reality is made [00:10:30] of, are influenced by. Our conscious thought when we can, we can create a [00:10:35] vacuum with just a few randomly placed photons inside this vacuum.
[00:10:39] Dr. Sue Morter: We can think a [00:10:40] particular thought in toward that vacuum and the photons rearrange, oh
[00:10:44] Dr. Taz: my
[00:10:44] Dr. Sue Morter: gosh. We can [00:10:45] think a different kind of thought, and the photons rearrange accordingly. So what it shows us [00:10:50] is our consciousness, our conscious focus of our attention. It [00:10:55] has an ability to shapeshift physical reality because those little photons [00:11:00] are the tiniest little particles that when stacked together, they create substance that we are used [00:11:05] to measuring in terms of atoms and molecules and so forth.
[00:11:08] Dr. Sue Morter: So quantum science is [00:11:10] bringing us into such a subtle reality of what is actually. At [00:11:15] cause of anything that's happening in our lives that we can't deny [00:11:20] that the power of thought and breath and attention and magnifying. Our [00:11:25] focus has every ability to determine the function of [00:11:30] livers and kidneys and colons.
[00:11:31] Dr. Sue Morter: Wow. Respiration and chemistries and, um, and our [00:11:35] ability, most importantly, to operate as a creative influence in our lives. Mm-hmm. Versus [00:11:40] operating on the defense, uh, being a reactor and a victim to the [00:11:45] circumstances that occur. If quantum science is saying, Hmm, we are in charge of [00:11:50] determining what's going to happen in this body and in this environment that we are [00:11:55] operating in.
[00:11:56] Dr. Sue Morter: We just have to learn how to do that. And the great news is we can, we
[00:11:59] Dr. Taz: can. Well, I [00:12:00] think it's amazing. And a little bit frightening and scary at the same time that we have the power [00:12:05] to change our DNA, right? Which means we also have tremendous amount of [00:12:10] influence on the generations coming, you know, after us, right?
[00:12:13] Dr. Taz: Because that DNA is [00:12:15] transmitted, you know, across lineages. And so I think there's a tremendous sense of [00:12:20] responsibility and there's also a tremendous sense of. Amazing. You know, [00:12:25] opportunity at the same time. Yeah, I think I did a TED Talk back and nobody understood it at the time [00:12:30] because I think this was still not like language that, you know, people were [00:12:35] using.
[00:12:35] Dr. Sue Morter: Right.
[00:12:35] Dr. Taz: But I've always been. Fascinated by this idea of like, you know, [00:12:40] quantum E energy, quantum medicine, you know, love Chinese medicine, all these other things. But I did a TED talk, I [00:12:45] think it was 2017, and it was about the fact that [00:12:50] maternal emotions are being stored in the mitochondria, which is an energy [00:12:55] field, right?
[00:12:55] Dr. Taz: Yeah. An energy source. And then being transmitted down generation after generation. [00:13:00] Largely unchanged, right? Yes. Largely unaffected by who your partner's with. [00:13:05] And the reason I, I even started that conversation, or did that TED talk, was because I was looking at our [00:13:10] lineage, our, our maline lineage and you know, like, you know, my grandmothers had [00:13:15] stories of, you know, being oppressed or not being able to express their voice or [00:13:20] whatever else.
[00:13:20] Dr. Taz: My mom had similar circumstances, you know, I was not necessarily oppressed, but I [00:13:25] was raised in a chaotic home. And then comes my daughter who. Definitely no chaotic home, [00:13:30] super happy, privileged childhood, but everyone's had the same kind of look [00:13:35] in their eye of insecurity, you know, inability to maybe voice [00:13:40] themselves or act, you know, until they mature up.
[00:13:43] Dr. Taz: And so I was like, why is [00:13:45] that? Like different experiences. And so this idea. Of locking [00:13:50] your emotions within your physical body and how it transmits down is real. [00:13:55] Mm-hmm. You know, I've seen it play out over and over again. What are some of the patient stories where you've seen [00:14:00] this idea play out in real time?
[00:14:02] Dr. Taz: Where it has been more emotional locking, [00:14:05] energetic locking or blockages that have resulted in physical outcomes?
[00:14:09] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. Oh my [00:14:10] goodness. So, you know, a diabetic that is, [00:14:15] uh, is really influenced by. Their immediate ability to metabolize, you know, [00:14:20] sugars in life, et cetera. Uh, once she discovered that actually [00:14:25] allowing her own disposition to be enough to be, uh, [00:14:30] whole and complete, actually her recognizing that there is a sweetness to [00:14:35] life that she never really recognized.
[00:14:37] Dr. Sue Morter: She was caught in survival all the time. Mm-hmm. And [00:14:40] was. Transferred from being raised by her parents to her grandmother raising her because of chaos in the [00:14:45] home, and, and she grew up under those circumstances, under those recognitions and, [00:14:50] and us working with, moving her energy back into its alignment and its integrated state.
[00:14:54] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:14:55] She began to recognize that, that she was okay. Hmm, that she was safe, that she was whole and [00:15:00] complete. And as a byproduct of that, not only was she able to reduce her insulin [00:15:05] down to, you know, a functional level and continue to redu continues to [00:15:10] reduce it, but also found that her eyesight was changing and that her disposition was [00:15:15] changing in at large, and her ability to actually be in a relationship for the first time [00:15:20] in her life.
[00:15:20] Dr. Sue Morter: Wow. In her thirties, uh, to be in a successful, loving, dynamic [00:15:25] relationship for the first time all was a byproduct of her recognizing that, [00:15:30] that she needed to bring her attention back onto self instead of being consumed [00:15:35] on other and defensive. Physiology, a dysregulated nervous system, which we, [00:15:40] we know so much about these days, but to recognize that there is an essence underneath [00:15:45] all of that, that, that she had no idea existed to find the true self, [00:15:50] which sounds super esoteric, but it is a starting point that we [00:15:55] all.
[00:15:55] Dr. Sue Morter: Ultimately have to find,
[00:15:57] Dr. Taz: is there a category of [00:16:00] illnesses? Whether they are, you know, something like diabetes or other autoimmune diseases, for [00:16:05] example, or cancers or mental health conditions. I don't know, is there, [00:16:10] is there a bucket or a category of medical diagnoses and medical illnesses [00:16:15] that you found in practice is really an energy issue?
[00:16:18] Dr. Taz: It's really an energy medicine [00:16:20] issue.
[00:16:20] Dr. Sue Morter: You know, if we, if we look at what science is showing us and it says everything is energy, [00:16:25] and I look at what my clinical experiences have been, it can all be traced back to energy [00:16:30] blockages, whether it's a chronic degenerative disease or a case of migraine headaches or anything in [00:16:35] between that that we experience.
[00:16:37] Dr. Sue Morter: It can all be traced back to [00:16:40] a blockage in the natural energy flow that is intended to be happening through this body. [00:16:45] That energy built this body, that energy is designed to be sustaining this [00:16:50] body, to be healing it and replenishing and rejuvenating whatever happens in the course [00:16:55] of living, uh, in our bodies and in our minds, and in our, our conscious, [00:17:00] you know.
[00:17:00] Dr. Sue Morter: Personhood our humanity, right? And so if that energy is [00:17:05] blocked, it ends up revealing in certain ways based upon the, the [00:17:10] aspects of the energy at large that are blocked. For instance, we may have blockages [00:17:15] in certain areas of our system that relate to our basic [00:17:20] foundational survival instincts, our, our capacity to feel at [00:17:25] home and safe.
[00:17:25] Dr. Taz: Not
[00:17:26] Dr. Sue Morter: even knowing what caused it. We might've been born to a mother that was [00:17:30] wrestling with that during the pregnancy. Um, that was the case in my world,
[00:17:34] Dr. Taz: right.
[00:17:34] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:17:35] And, uh, and in another level of our own consciousness, if the [00:17:40] energy is blocked, it can in inhibit our sense of [00:17:45] creativity.
[00:17:45] Dr. Taz: Hmm,
[00:17:45] Dr. Sue Morter: our sense of our capacity to take something and make it better than, [00:17:50] you know, leave it better than we found it.
[00:17:51] Dr. Sue Morter: That if we are not tapped into that part of us, [00:17:55] then we become reactive and we search for environments that feel safe [00:18:00] rather than recognizing that we can transform circumstances based upon [00:18:05] our true identity. When we know who we are, we know we can move into these circumstances [00:18:10] and shapeshift them. If we know that we're made of creative energy itself and we know [00:18:15] how to tap into that and allow it to, to literally.
[00:18:18] Dr. Sue Morter: Pour into our life [00:18:20] circumstances, it begins to shift our life circumstances. And [00:18:25] so if other areas of our system are shut down in particular ways, we may [00:18:30] be conditional in our loving, we may be, uh, hesitant if we've ever been [00:18:35] suppressed or ridiculed, or heartbroken or blindsided, and all these things that happen [00:18:40] in life.
[00:18:40] Dr. Sue Morter: If we are operating as a compromised version of who we [00:18:45] are, if we are operating as a defensive, protective, guarded [00:18:50] version of who we are,
[00:18:50] Dr. Taz: mm-hmm.
[00:18:51] Dr. Sue Morter: Then we're not operating as the creative essence, the creative [00:18:55] quality that we're capable of expressing. So it depends on [00:19:00] what parts of our energies are blocked and in which ways that will [00:19:05] determine what sort of symptoms generate in the physical body, in the emotional, uh, [00:19:10] component of our lives, in the mental capacities, uh, even in the perception of self [00:19:15] altogether, so many, many categories.
[00:19:17] Dr. Taz: So basically any illness. Can be touched by [00:19:20] this.
[00:19:20] Dr. Sue Morter: We're designed to be self-healing and self-regulating. And if we're not doing that, there's a reason, [00:19:25] you know, the average individual can be diagnosed with cancer seven times in their, in [00:19:30] their life. But the body is designed to take that up and transform, you know, [00:19:35] transform it to obliterate the cancer cells and replace them with new replenished ones.
[00:19:39] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:19:40] But what we're learning is that the energy field that is building the body and [00:19:45] and responsible for. You know, re rejuvenating it. If that energy field isn't [00:19:50] operating the, the way that it's supposed to, then those cells get to flourish out of [00:19:55] control and grow.
[00:19:55] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:19:55] Dr. Sue Morter: And if the energy field is operating the way that it is built to operate, [00:20:00] it moves in and rectifies the situation and through its [00:20:05] perfecting template builds cells that are stronger than the ones that were, you know, there before.[00:20:10]
[00:20:10] Dr. Taz: Fascinating. You know, one of the things that somebody watching or listening to us today may [00:20:15] be wondering, well, how do I know? You know, out of everything that I'm dealing with [00:20:20] today, how do I know that I actually have an energy blockage? Versus something [00:20:25] else. Is there a way for them to assess themselves and to, you know, [00:20:30] understand like this is where it's coming from?
[00:20:32] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. There are so, so many things. You know, the, [00:20:35] the answer to the question is, is this energy or is it something else? Would [00:20:40] be its energy.
[00:20:41] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm.
[00:20:41] Dr. Sue Morter: And it may have eventuated itself [00:20:45] into some symptoms that are now self, re, re, you know, replenishing [00:20:50] or, or recreating a new expression. Yeah. And so they become a new cause that [00:20:55] generates another problem, sort of a, a chain reaction, but you can trace it all [00:21:00] back to an energetic flow.
[00:21:02] Dr. Sue Morter: So how does somebody know [00:21:05] everybody? Has had the experience of a lump in their throat, tightness in their [00:21:10] chest, a knot in their stomach, um, a shrill up their spine, a defensiveness that they have a difficult [00:21:15] time releasing tension in the body. These are all symptoms of an [00:21:20] energetic blockage. Mm-hmm. So think of it this way, an energetic blockage, [00:21:25] disregulates the nervous system.
[00:21:26] Dr. Sue Morter: The nervous system being dysregulated changes our chemistry, [00:21:30] changes our physiology, changes our ability to self heal. And then we [00:21:35] end up with symptoms like digestive problems, allergies, asthmas, pain [00:21:40] patterns that don't go away. Anxiety stresses, you know that, that seem [00:21:45] unresolvable. That is a chain reaction in our traditional [00:21:50] medical model.
[00:21:50] Dr. Sue Morter: We're out here addressing those symptoms, right? And we take a medication to try to [00:21:55] cover it up so that we don't feel that way or that we don't have that pain or et cetera. Or if [00:22:00] there's an organ. System that isn't functioning right, we try to add to it or adjust or [00:22:05] adapt. And I know that you are very inspired by, you know, the idea of [00:22:10] let's not treat the symptom, let's get to the cause, right?
[00:22:12] Dr. Sue Morter: And so we move to these basic foundational [00:22:15] systems in the body. But those systems, the hormonal system, the [00:22:20] digestive system, the respiratory system, the endocrine system altogether, the cardiovascular [00:22:25] system, the nervous system, all of these systems are built by one master [00:22:30] system. And that master system is the flow of energy through our body.
[00:22:34] Dr. Taz: Mm.
[00:22:34] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:22:35] So if that master system is interrupted and not functioning the way that it could optimally, [00:22:40] then that chain reaction happens and we end up becoming aware of it way over [00:22:45] here on the symptom level. But it can all be traced back to why [00:22:50] isn't the nervous system regulating itself. How does it get stuck?
[00:22:54] Dr. Sue Morter: How [00:22:55] do we get locked in a dysregulation of fight or flight and get locked there in the first [00:23:00] place? And that can be traced back to if the energy isn't flowing [00:23:05] as a deep sense of self, a deep sense of knowingness of who we are, that we're [00:23:10] okay, that we are whole and complete. We're full people. We're not broken.
[00:23:14] Dr. Sue Morter: There's nothing [00:23:15] missing. There's nothing wrong. Some of our, our wholeness has been suppressed or [00:23:20] never had the opportunity. To animate and to enliven and to [00:23:25] express. And so we experience the consequences of that in terms [00:23:30] of the symptoms that we end up going to the doctor for. And so. If we can come back [00:23:35] here and learn to feel and to breathe and to [00:23:40] be positioned inside this system as we truly are meant to be, [00:23:45] then we start moving this energy flow through the body from a.[00:23:50]
[00:23:50] Dr. Sue Morter: Sort of an essential self perspective, not a personality perspective, right. But [00:23:55] an essential, true, authentic self perspective. When that starts to happen, [00:24:00] things start to let go rigidities that we've held in our body because we were uptight and [00:24:05] afraid and still reacting to that thing that happened when we were 10 or 15 or 25 or [00:24:10] 35, for that matter.
[00:24:10] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm.
[00:24:11] Dr. Sue Morter: And so we start to sense and feel a melting [00:24:15] into. Oh my gosh, I had no idea that it could be easy. I could be
[00:24:19] Dr. Taz: my favorite. So [00:24:20] I've heard, I've heard you say a couple of things and I wanna make sure we're all tracking in the right direction. So, [00:24:25] you know, this idea of, of being stuck energetically is then in [00:24:30] turn creating nervous system dysfunction, which is sort of this chronic stress state, right?
[00:24:34] Dr. Taz: Yeah. [00:24:35] And one of the ways it sounds like people can identify themselves as being in that. [00:24:40] Particular place. It's just not feeling safe. It sounds like not feeling safe in your body, [00:24:45] not feeling, you know, uh, confident with who you are or what [00:24:50] your purpose is or, or where you're lining out in the world, and being a little bit more [00:24:55] externally driven than internally driven.
[00:24:57] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm. Do I have that right?
[00:24:58] Dr. Sue Morter: Yes.
[00:24:58] Dr. Taz: Yes. That is what, [00:25:00] that's what's sounding like, sort of like a quick screening tool for anybody who's like, [00:25:05] well. You know, am I, do I need to go down this road? Mm-hmm. And, and the answer's probably yes for almost [00:25:10] everyone, because almost everyone I meet nowadays is in a chronic nervous system, overdrive, high [00:25:15] cortisol state.
[00:25:16] Dr. Taz: Right? But I think these ideas of safety, [00:25:20] focusing internally, being creative. Like, you know, I think if your creativity is [00:25:25] blocked and you're not able, you know, to be innovative or creative or [00:25:30] productive in your life and, and unique in individual ways that are authentic to you, those are [00:25:35] all signs, maybe and symptoms that the issues weigh up here, not downstream [00:25:40] with maybe a symptom like fatigue or brain fog or weight gain or, or some of those things that [00:25:45] so many people talk about, you know, as people.
[00:25:47] Dr. Taz: You know, try to understand this idea of energy medicine [00:25:50] and energy healing. And you've talked a lot about self-healing. You know, what is. The path to [00:25:55] self-healing. 'cause as, as you've already mentioned, our thoughts can shift DNA, they can shift [00:26:00] what's happening in a intercellular, you know, environment. And again, I go to [00:26:05] That's amazing.
[00:26:05] Dr. Taz: And that's also really scary because like, oh my gosh, what if I have a bad thought? Like, what am I doing? [00:26:10] You know, so, you know, so how do we start to [00:26:15] master this? Mm-hmm. How do we start to get our hands around it in a realistic, practical [00:26:20] way where. Where we're influencing energy in the right direction [00:26:25] and you know, we are able, you know, to sort of co-create it sounds like, with [00:26:30] ourselves.
[00:26:30] Dr. Sue Morter: Mm-hmm. You know, one of the things that, that I feel is, is [00:26:35] direly missing in our approach to [00:26:40] self-healing, uh, is that we want to, we, we are, we're [00:26:45] losing touch with and embracing. Allowing, uh, [00:26:50] nurturing disposition in the world. We've been pulled outside of ourselves [00:26:55] so much that we're approaching everything.
[00:26:56] Dr. Sue Morter: Like, okay, how do I deal with that? How do I deal with that? How do I deal [00:27:00] with that? How do I get over this? How do I, how do I, you know, hack this situation? Mm-hmm. Or how do I, you [00:27:05] know, what's the, what's the little skill that I can do in this moment to to, to be the quick fix? [00:27:10] And what's, what's deeply missing inside of it is our come from, of our, of [00:27:15] our wholeness.
[00:27:16] Dr. Sue Morter: So, for instance, you mentioned, you know, what, if I think a negative thought, am I gonna like [00:27:20] derail myself? No. Um, if I. Think a [00:27:25] negative thought and I can embrace the part of me that is afraid, or that is, [00:27:30] you know, being, um, uh, pessimistic or protective or guarded in [00:27:35] some way. If I can, the moment that I experience myself thinking that way, [00:27:40] if I can have compassion for that version of myself.
[00:27:43] Dr. Sue Morter: In this very [00:27:45] moment, if I can recognize, wow, you know, that feels [00:27:50] extraordinarily protective and you know, edgy and I'm very contracted. And [00:27:55] when we recognize that contraction or the edginess thought or the, or the, uh, [00:28:00] words that are coming out of our mouth that are judgemental or, you know, protective in some way, if [00:28:05] we can immediately turn on the compassionate version of self.
[00:28:09] Dr. Sue Morter: For self.
[00:28:09] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm. [00:28:10]
[00:28:10] Dr. Sue Morter: You know, we think of in terms of compassion, like we should be compassion for the other person and then we won't judge them and everything will [00:28:15] be better. And that is true. And if we're judging someone else, it is a [00:28:20] reflection of the judgment that's going on inside of ourselves that we aren't attuned to [00:28:25] because it's more subtle than this outer world, this movie that we're walking [00:28:30] through where, where the.
[00:28:32] Dr. Sue Morter: Inner world is being reflected to us. And this is [00:28:35] another thing that quantum science is teaching us that we can't see and feel and hear what's going [00:28:40] on inside as easily, only because we're not attuned to it. Because we could, we can [00:28:45] teach ourselves to do so, but in the meantime, we're very attuned to what's going on in the outer world,
[00:28:49] Dr. Taz: [00:28:50] right?
[00:28:50] Dr. Sue Morter: So what happens in here and doesn't happen in here gets [00:28:55] reflected in the movie that we're walking through in this life. So if I'm not kind to [00:29:00] myself, someone's going to not be kind to me, because that's how I [00:29:05] perceive my value. That's how, that's when you do the math, that's how it's adding up. [00:29:10] So life is reflecting back to us how we're secretly stealth, fully treating [00:29:15] ourselves on the inside, but we don't even know it.
[00:29:17] Dr. Sue Morter: Because of this suppressed [00:29:20] version of authentic self. True self.
[00:29:22] Dr. Taz: Interesting.
[00:29:22] Dr. Sue Morter: So if I'm in an abusive [00:29:25] relationship, my attention of course goes to how am I gonna deal with this abuse? How? How do I [00:29:30] navigate this? How do I survive this? Do I stay? Do I go, what do I do? And our attention is way out [00:29:35] here. And once we get to safety and we begin healing, we begin to recognize, [00:29:40] wow.
[00:29:41] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. I was doing that to myself. Yeah. Long before they started doing it to me.
[00:29:44] Dr. Taz: [00:29:45] Huh?
[00:29:45] Dr. Sue Morter: I just didn't realize it. So when we walk ourselves back into this, this [00:29:50] subtle awareness, we begin to become much more masterful [00:29:55] in life because we can. Share compassionate moments [00:30:00] with the self between the performing personality or the protective [00:30:05] personality and the true, essential, soulful self, if you will, uh, [00:30:10] of, of who we are and when we develop that sort of patience and [00:30:15] internal presence and, and a loving relationship internally.[00:30:20]
[00:30:20] Dr. Sue Morter: It begins to be reflected in our external lives. It can't not because the [00:30:25] vibrational frequency mm-hmm. That we are now emanating has changed. [00:30:30] So let me just kind of reframe Yeah. Back to where we were. Everything is energy, and [00:30:35] energy is vibrating in various frequencies like radio [00:30:40] stations and if I'm dialed into.
[00:30:42] Dr. Sue Morter: Country and Western, I'm gonna hear country and western. [00:30:45] If I'm dialed into jazz, I'm gonna hear jazz. So the same thing is [00:30:50] true inside our whole operating system, this energetic master system, [00:30:55] it's operating in a variety of frequencies. And if I'm dialed in to only a few, [00:31:00] then that's what I experience in this abundant universe of all the [00:31:05] things that that can be experienced.
[00:31:07] Dr. Sue Morter: I experience these kinds of things [00:31:10] because I'm dialed in to a vibrational frequency where those kinds of things [00:31:15] exist.
[00:31:15] Dr. Taz: If you're listening to this and thinking, I know something is [00:31:20] often my body, but I don't know where to start. This is for you. That's [00:31:25] why I created the circle. The circle is my private community where I and my team [00:31:30] focus on understanding your body from hormones and stress to metabolic health and [00:31:35] longevity with real life guidance that you can actually use.
[00:31:39] Dr. Taz: This is about [00:31:40] clarity and consistency and support beyond the exam room. And [00:31:45] maybe outside of all the different appointments and experts that you've been running around to, [00:31:50] you can try the circle with a one month trial using the promo code [00:31:55] podcast@wholeplus.co slash circle. Again, that's whole plus to HOL [00:32:00] ppls.co back slash circle.
[00:32:03] Dr. Taz: All right, let's jump back into [00:32:05] the episode.
[00:32:05] Dr. Sue Morter: So when I was in in practice every day, and that's all I was doing. [00:32:10] Over the years, I recognized that I had certain patients and maybe have experienced this, I had certain [00:32:15] patients that were always having accidents. They were falling off ladders, they were in car [00:32:20] wrecks.
[00:32:20] Dr. Sue Morter: There were, there was something almost always going on in their life. You know, something was [00:32:25] happening with a family member, a drama, a trauma crisis was always unfolding. And about [00:32:30] 20% of my patient base accounted for about 80% of the accidents and [00:32:35] incidents that were dramatic in my practice over a period of.
[00:32:38] Dr. Sue Morter: 20 years. And so [00:32:40] I began to recognize like, what is going on here? You don't just have bad luck. You're dialed [00:32:45] into something in an unknowing fashion that is keeping you in a [00:32:50] disconnected, disoriented, um, reality.
[00:32:53] Dr. Taz: Hmm.
[00:32:54] Dr. Sue Morter: And so [00:32:55] your system is emanating that vibrational frequency and. We [00:33:00] literally, uh, attract and engage in ways that are [00:33:05] limited in those same ways.
[00:33:07] Dr. Sue Morter: It also shows up as, [00:33:10] you know, different diagnoses, different disease conditions, different ways of [00:33:15] dysfunction that our system will adopt to because of the, [00:33:20] um, incomplete. Bandwidth that we're dialing into. We're limiting [00:33:25] ourselves by beliefs that we hold about ourselves at a deep, [00:33:30] deep level. We are limiting ourselves by our disposition in the world because of [00:33:35] that.
[00:33:35] Dr. Taz: Hmm.
[00:33:35] Dr. Sue Morter: I believe at some deep level that I'm not enough. I'm going to take different [00:33:40] actions and I'm going to emanate different energies than if I [00:33:45] finally begin to embrace, you know, yes, I am enough.
[00:33:48] Dr. Taz: So this,
[00:33:49] Dr. Sue Morter: yes,
[00:33:49] Dr. Taz: I'm, so this, yeah. [00:33:50] Ties back to this idea of manifestation and, and optimism and some of these other.[00:33:55]
[00:33:55] Dr. Taz: Things that have floated around in our culture, you know, where you know the idea, I'm [00:34:00] gonna manifest this, or I'm gonna make this happen, but then it doesn't happen. [00:34:05] And I've had others explain that it's not happening because at that very deep level, you've [00:34:10] not really reset the frequency or the radio station.
[00:34:13] Dr. Taz: So, you know, my question is. [00:34:15] How do we go about, like, if we can identify, which I feel like is the first [00:34:20] part, right? Like identifying that this is your issue and this is really where to [00:34:25] begin. Like how do we go about resetting that, right? Mm-hmm. Because [00:34:30] you know, we have a lot of people doing vision boards and manifest.
[00:34:33] Dr. Taz: And [00:34:35] affirming and affirmations are big. I have an 18-year-old who just like, I'm doing my affirmations right now, please [00:34:40] don't come in the room. You know, that type of situation, right. So we've got a, we've got a lot of all of that going [00:34:45] on, you know? But to truly impact. This change [00:34:50] down to the level of the DNA, like you've talked about.
[00:34:52] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm. What needs to happen.
[00:34:53] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. A deeper [00:34:55] felt sense of what it is. A felt sense of what it is we think we [00:35:00] want or need, because the true, essential self doesn't want or need anything. [00:35:05] Mm. It's completely whole. So if I'm sitting in a seat that thinks I need [00:35:10] this, this, or this to be okay, I'm not operating in the seat of the true [00:35:15] essential self.
[00:35:15] Dr. Sue Morter: So here's how I kind of explain it. Um, when we land [00:35:20] here, we sort of splat. Okay. And meaning that we forget who we are. We [00:35:25] don't know. We're, we're, we're oriented in ways that are survival based. We're trying to [00:35:30] figure out, you know, what just happened? Where am I? How, how do I please the big people? Yeah. I keep getting in [00:35:35] trouble for doing this thing that I wanna do.
[00:35:36] Dr. Sue Morter: We're two, we're three, we're four years old and we're [00:35:40] ing inside of this dispersed version of who we are. Way out here on the [00:35:45] periphery. And so out here on the periphery, we feel lacking [00:35:50] because it's not the truth of who we are. And so we feel like something's missing because [00:35:55] we're not in touch with the wholeness of who we are.
[00:35:58] Dr. Sue Morter: And so in the course of life, little [00:36:00] by little, we have the opportunities to pull ourselves back into center. [00:36:05] Where we've pulled back all of our resources, all the aspects of who we are, and we really [00:36:10] get, but you know, by the time we're like 85, we get, you know, Hey, don't mess with me, honey. Mm-hmm. I've been there.
[00:36:14] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:36:15] Mm-hmm. Right? Mm-hmm. And so we have this disposition that we've earned our way back into, I'm just [00:36:20] gonna be me and you can deal with it.
[00:36:21] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:36:21] Dr. Sue Morter: And so, so. Along the way, lots of [00:36:25] years in between there, we suffer and, and we want, and we don't have, and [00:36:30] we want to manifest. We want to change things. So my answer and what I've been [00:36:35] working with, with patients and clients, uh, to, to, you know, the tune of, uh, [00:36:40] having really reached millions of people with this conversation and been able to personally [00:36:45] work with thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people.
[00:36:48] Dr. Sue Morter: Pulling these things back together [00:36:50] again, recognizing there's a vibrational frequency to my wholeness that I, that I don't [00:36:55] operate as. So if I'm sitting and saying my affirmations, who's saying the affirmations? The one [00:37:00] who wants, or the one who celebrates that they have that, that they already have it, [00:37:05] it already exists.
[00:37:05] Dr. Sue Morter: It's already here. I'm just not, I'm not allowing it to be true. [00:37:10] I'm not dialing into it. So then the person, the rational thinker says, but it [00:37:15] isn't true. I don't have it here. It's not in my life right now.
[00:37:17] Dr. Taz: Right.
[00:37:17] Dr. Sue Morter: But on a deep, [00:37:20] energetic level, it is true. And the moment that we release [00:37:25] our position in this protective or performing personality, [00:37:30] so out here in the splat where we've dispersed, um, and.
[00:37:34] Dr. Sue Morter: Sorry, I [00:37:35] talk with my hands here. Yeah, yeah. No, so when we splat, we disperse. We're operating [00:37:40] out here on the periphery. That's the personality version of us. The one who has some, [00:37:45] some skills and some talents, and the one who's missing some stuff and you know, all that. Yeah. [00:37:50] So we grab a hold of that one and we go for it.
[00:37:52] Dr. Sue Morter: Because it's all we know. And so we go through [00:37:55] life, you know, uh, working from these things that we, people have given us [00:38:00] feedback. Oh, you're so, you're so, um, kind. You're, you're so generous. And so we [00:38:05] be more kind and generous because we get rewarded for that and we keep operating. [00:38:10] In a performance based world.
[00:38:11] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:38:11] Dr. Sue Morter: And at the end of the day, that's [00:38:15] not who we are. It's not all of us. And so we get 20, 30, 40 years into that [00:38:20] and we start feeling like, you know, I'm getting tired. It's, it takes a lot to do this. Mm-hmm. And it's, [00:38:25] it's not inspired. It, I don't, I don't, I feel like I'm missing these things. So we learn about [00:38:30] manifesting and saying affirmations and doing these things.
[00:38:31] Dr. Sue Morter: So we start doing them from the seat of the personality. [00:38:35] Okay. In the work that I'm doing is inviting people [00:38:40] to recognize that's just an operating system that you've been programmed into, [00:38:45] that you tried it on for size, it worked, but what got you here won't get you to the [00:38:50] rest of you,
[00:38:50] Dr. Taz: right?
[00:38:51] Dr. Sue Morter: And so to get to the rest of you, we gotta drop in [00:38:55] and remember who you were.
[00:38:57] Dr. Sue Morter: Before you splatted remember who you were before you [00:39:00] got dispersed and to recognize that, so people work with meditation and breath [00:39:05] work and coming into stillness and silence so that they're not always the doer. Yeah. And [00:39:10] they develop the observing mind, the witness mind, and they start to witness life.
[00:39:14] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:39:15] And instead of just reacting to it, which is a beautiful step in the right direction, and when we [00:39:20] develop that witness mind, we're getting closer back here. But ultimately, we're [00:39:25] supposed to be using that witness mind, observing mind instead of the thinking, [00:39:30] analytical, strategizing mind always to come back and use it.
[00:39:34] Dr. Sue Morter: On the [00:39:35] inside to witness the energies that are trying to move through my [00:39:40] system by first noticing where those energies are stuck. You know, I've had this knot in [00:39:45] my gut for 15 years. Somebody would say to me. And I'm saying, yeah, that's where the rest of [00:39:50] you is, that you've been missing. If you would free up that energy that is locked up in the [00:39:55] liver area or the pancreas area, or free up that energy that's around your heart space [00:40:00] or free up that energy that is locked in the hip, that just doesn't seem to heal or, [00:40:05] or the, the energy that doesn't run down that leg.
[00:40:07] Dr. Sue Morter: So you're. Always injuring that knee [00:40:10] again, and it never really heals and it's been 15 years, et cetera. If we would free up [00:40:15] the energy that is blocked in this body, we actually would begin to experience [00:40:20] the rest of who we are. We would start to feel, uh, a sense of compassion, [00:40:25] which is required to find that energy inside.
[00:40:27] Dr. Sue Morter: We would experience a version of [00:40:30] love that we've not known before because a sense of wholeness starts to move [00:40:35] inside this system. That we never knew we had. It was in there, but we were way [00:40:40] out here on the periphery in this performing personality or this protective personality [00:40:45] trying to make life happen.
[00:40:46] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:40:46] Dr. Sue Morter: Trying to get it to go. And we're exhausting ourselves doing that. That's [00:40:50] why the nervous system is dysregulated. That's why the chemistry is off. That's why we're not healing. [00:40:55] So when we come back and we begin with the end in mind, we begin as if it is true that [00:41:00] I'm whole and we just do something like sit and breathe in the.
[00:41:04] Dr. Sue Morter: Five [00:41:05] minutes that you're waiting for, you know, whomever to, to be, get ready to go to [00:41:10] dinner, and you're sitting there like, da, da, da. So do something really productive in [00:41:15] that moment and just start to pay attention to your breath. Start to pay attention to [00:41:20] who's sitting there. Are you tense? Are you agitated?
[00:41:22] Dr. Sue Morter: Are you controlled by your mind? Or [00:41:25] are you mastering that situation and bringing your mind into your heart, breathing in your [00:41:30] belly, stretching open. Some of those areas that are just chronically rigid, tight [00:41:35] because they're contracted for a good reason, they're not just inadvertently [00:41:40] contracted.
[00:41:40] Dr. Taz: So you talk about the importance of breath work, but you also mentioned the importance of posture.[00:41:45]
[00:41:45] Dr. Sue Morter: Hmm.
[00:41:45] Dr. Taz: Talk to us a little bit about that, how posture connects to the flow of energy and [00:41:50] to this sort of, you know, inability to connect back to yourself.
[00:41:54] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. [00:41:55] So if we, if we were to pull all those energies back into our deep core and breathe [00:42:00] life into that, we would be operating as someone who is whole and [00:42:05] complete.
[00:42:05] Dr. Sue Morter: Who isn't afraid, who isn't here to prove anything. Rather someone who is [00:42:10] here to express and. And explore and [00:42:15] create and engage and share. And that person has a different [00:42:20] posture than the person who feels downtrodden. Is exhausted. Is [00:42:25] overwhelmed with the stresses and the strains of life because they're preoccupied with the [00:42:30] competitive scenario.
[00:42:32] Dr. Sue Morter: Right. They think it's real. And so they act every [00:42:35] day as if it is, which confirms then in fact it is. And because we continue to [00:42:40] dial into that radio station, that's the world we're living in. And if we were to [00:42:45] dial into a radio station that feels whole and complete, we would be [00:42:50] experiencing. More wholeness and completeness, but it has to be felt.
[00:42:53] Dr. Sue Morter: And so if we [00:42:55] assume, so here's what we know. If our consciousness is aligned and integrated, [00:43:00] we automatically have shoulders that roll back. We have a chest that feels full on the [00:43:05] inside and it's pressing us out. It's not that we're sitting up and sticking out our chest, [00:43:10] it's that we're on the inside inflating a balloon.
[00:43:13] Dr. Sue Morter: If you will, filled [00:43:15] with love, if I could give it a vibrational frequency that is pressing out into this [00:43:20] world here to express and to explore and to celebrate. So if [00:43:25] we know that the consciousness does that to a body when it's plugged [00:43:30] in, if we put the body in that position. Itself as if we already [00:43:35] are feeling that way, and then we move deep inside the body and [00:43:40] start breathing with the love that would be present if we did know who we were.
[00:43:44] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:43:45] What begins to happen is we put ourselves in the neighborhood [00:43:50] of the vibrational radio station where that can click into place.
[00:43:54] Dr. Taz: Interesting.
[00:43:54] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:43:55] So, so if we. And, and we can learn how to squeeze certain [00:44:00] muscle groups, move into certain positions, breathe in certain ways at the same time that [00:44:05] start to encourage that energy to start moving again.
[00:44:09] Dr. Sue Morter: But [00:44:10] even if we start doing that from living in our head, we ultimately [00:44:15] have to drop down inside this body. Mm, in the heart. In the gut, in the [00:44:20] solar plexus that separates the two. If you think about this, our heart, we know love, [00:44:25] you know, compassion, this divine ability to forgive and to begin again, and then we have [00:44:30] below the navel, this wisdom center.
[00:44:33] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm.
[00:44:33] Dr. Sue Morter: That is where you [00:44:35] know your deep gut feelings, your inner knowing resides in mass. There's [00:44:40] a lot of energy in that area of consciousness. And [00:44:45] so here's the problem. There's this. Blockage between the two [00:44:50] at the solar Plexus area where. Our personal power resides [00:44:55] our personal identity. So if I have the basic core belief that I'm not [00:45:00] enough, that luck never goes my way, I wasn't born into the right, you know, privileges and [00:45:05] circumstances, you know, we're contracted.
[00:45:07] Dr. Sue Morter: Then with that belief, it's a very [00:45:10] contracting disposition. Mm. Even if we weren't, it doesn't mean we can't have anything. [00:45:15] So when we start to open that posturally and start to breathe in that area, we [00:45:20] start to stimulate the part of consciousness that bridges our wisdom and our love. And it [00:45:25] is so powerful.
[00:45:25] Dr. Sue Morter: The Eastern culture would reference it as the power of a thousand sons.
[00:45:29] Dr. Taz: Mm.
[00:45:29] Dr. Sue Morter: That's a [00:45:30] lot.
[00:45:30] Dr. Taz: That's a lot. Well, you've written a book, uh, hidden Codes, right? The Five Hidden [00:45:35] Codes of Awakening is the, tell us the of your book. Do I have it correct? Yeah. It's The Anatomy of Awakening. It's
[00:45:39] Dr. Sue Morter: the [00:45:40] Anatomy of
[00:45:40] Dr. Taz: Awakening anatomy.
[00:45:40] Dr. Taz: And in the book you talk about all these different. Codes. [00:45:45] Can you walk us through those for a second? Um, in terms of what we need to understand as we are [00:45:50] trying to, to come out of this essentially. Right.
[00:45:52] Dr. Sue Morter: So, you know, that's exactly why the book, [00:45:55] I started recognizing that a lot of people would hear this conversation and.
[00:45:59] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:46:00] Feel like there's something in that. I don't know exactly what she's talking about, but I can [00:46:05] feel, yeah, that there's something in me that knows that I've been doing all the stuff I've been [00:46:10] saying, all the affirmations, creating the vision board, I've been listening to, and watching and reading and do, do [00:46:15] all of it.
[00:46:16] Dr. Sue Morter: And this thing isn't happening. There's, I, maybe, maybe there's been some [00:46:20] improvement, but I'm still not feeling this over the, you know, over the finish line kind of [00:46:25] feeling. And so I started working with people in an, in an organized [00:46:30] fashion, starting as, as if with the end in mind. Mm-hmm. Starting as if we'd already crossed the finish line, [00:46:35] how would you feel if you had, how would you feel if you were.
[00:46:39] Dr. Sue Morter: Already [00:46:40] knowing your wholeness and your complete, and your completeness. And so I start by [00:46:45] recognizing you are at your very foundation, a creator of your life. [00:46:50] You are that. So we have, so I explain what that means and how we can [00:46:55] begin to approach that. And I, and I'm showing people in, in one of the, the [00:47:00] first of the, of the five codes that, you know, let's start at the beginning.
[00:47:03] Dr. Sue Morter: You are [00:47:05] this unified field of consciousness that has come into. Body form. You are [00:47:10] not just a human being, you are an energy being that is being human. Mm. You know, in [00:47:15] spirituality, they would say, you're a, you're a spirit, you're a soul. That is in this life journey [00:47:20] in, in terms of science. We, we can't really talk that way, but we do.
[00:47:24] Dr. Sue Morter: Uh, we do. [00:47:25] When, when, when we get down to the brass tacks, we're like, what do you feel in your heart of hearts? What's [00:47:30] your soul saying? You know, we're, we're there. So we begin to. [00:47:35] Train people to recognize these vibrational frequencies that we have edged out. [00:47:40] We bring in, um, ideas like, you're a sacred presence.
[00:47:44] Dr. Sue Morter: You are, you are [00:47:45] made of wholeness. You are a rare presence on this, on this earth. And to [00:47:50] recognize your uniqueness and your importance of being, et cetera. And so we start to [00:47:55] cultivate vibrational frequencies that we long ago. Pressed aside. Mm-hmm. Because it just [00:48:00] wasn't necessary in my immediate environment.
[00:48:03] Dr. Sue Morter: And when I'm splatted, you know, when I'm all [00:48:05] dispersed in my survivor, you know, uh, my survivorship. And so [00:48:10] then we move into, um, another code that recognizes that when [00:48:15] we recognize these frequencies within ourselves, the precious, the rare, [00:48:20] the intimate, the, the, the energies that we think are weak. That we [00:48:25] have marginalized, we're just gonna bring them back and take a look at 'em and feel into them.
[00:48:29] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:48:30] And people begin healing automatically simply because they're starting to [00:48:35] vibrate internally. They're starting to dial into the radio station where [00:48:40] wholeness exists, and we've pushed it aside in our tendency to [00:48:45] survive to in, you know, be locked into fight or flight, doing so and so. [00:48:50] We move into, you know, a code of taking aligned right actions, things that are [00:48:55] true to us, to, to allow the enhancement of this true self [00:49:00] rather than strategizing for the competitive edge.
[00:49:02] Dr. Sue Morter: Mm. And what ends up happening is [00:49:05] we end up unfolding in a way that is unwavering, that is. [00:49:10] Steeped in wisdom that is steeped in the deep truth of who we are and what we're [00:49:15] doing here. So we're able to make decisions in those hot moments that aren't [00:49:20] fear-based. And when we stop making fear-based decisions, we start [00:49:25] living actually for the first time.
[00:49:27] Dr. Taz: So in the book, you walk the reader through [00:49:30] these different codes.
[00:49:30] Dr. Sue Morter: Yes.
[00:49:31] Dr. Taz: And through this journey and coming back into self, [00:49:35] it's not fair to ask this question, but I'm gonna ask it anyways. Is there a timeline? For [00:49:40] somebody when they start this journey, like, what can they expect?
[00:49:44] Dr. Sue Morter: Yeah. You [00:49:45] know, they're, I tried to put everything in there because I know the impatient person who's like, okay, you know, I'll [00:49:50] give you what's going on.
[00:49:50] Dr. Sue Morter: I'll give you a crack, I'll give you 24 hours.
[00:49:51] Dr. Taz: Right, exactly.
[00:49:53] Dr. Sue Morter: I'll give you a crack.
[00:49:54] Dr. Taz: Three seconds.
[00:49:54] Dr. Sue Morter: [00:49:55] So and so, I know that in a high paced world, you know, we need immediately [00:50:00] results. And so I put practices in the book that show people what to do in a hot moment. [00:50:05] Do this. And if you do that, you're gonna see, oh.
[00:50:07] Dr. Sue Morter: There's a shift. I get it. I can feel it, [00:50:10] and then you'll give it a little more, um, opportunity. And there are other [00:50:15] practices in there that you can do while you're doing the dishes, while you're cleaning the house, while [00:50:20] you're, um, you know, whatever, whatever you're doing, living life. They're designed to [00:50:25] be, to be utilized and, and explored while you're living your life so you don't have to carve an [00:50:30] hour aside.
[00:50:30] Dr. Sue Morter: Right. You know, to do this every day, sit on a quarter.
[00:50:32] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:50:32] Dr. Sue Morter: And uh, and if you want to, [00:50:35] you know, it will enhance even more, but people get results immediately. [00:50:40] And the longer or deeper they go into some of the practices that are in the book. Of course, as with [00:50:45] anything, the more we devote our attention to it, the bigger it's gonna grow.
[00:50:48] Dr. Sue Morter: Mm. If we devote our [00:50:50] attention to the stress in our life, the more it grows. If we devote our attention to the solutions of that are [00:50:55] inherent in our system, the more it's gonna amplify and magnify, and the more we will feel those [00:51:00] experiences. And so I have people that have been, you know, it's, it's a lifestyle that one can [00:51:05] entrain themselves to live into.
[00:51:07] Dr. Sue Morter: And. It is also something [00:51:10] that, that people can use for some quick fixes here and there in the moments. But, but [00:51:15] here's what usually happens. People realize, you know, I did that thing she said, and it did work, [00:51:20] and I got it. So, you know, maybe I'll pick up that book this weekend. And then they do and they read a little bit more [00:51:25] and they just start to find their, their way in to [00:51:30] themselves.
[00:51:30] Dr. Sue Morter: And that's the point, right? Yeah. And, and so if we, if we can just, you know, [00:51:35] give it a. Crack, it begins to flood the space.
[00:51:39] Dr. Taz: What are you, [00:51:40] what are you hoping people will take away from the book?
[00:51:43] Dr. Sue Morter: That they discover [00:51:45] who they really are.
[00:51:46] Dr. Taz: Mm.
[00:51:46] Dr. Sue Morter: That they discover they have what it takes. That they are [00:51:50] made to generate their own path, that they're not supposed to [00:51:55] search for their true path.
[00:51:57] Dr. Sue Morter: They're supposed to be able to feel and [00:52:00] sense and generate their true path. They're, they're, they are original medicine. [00:52:05] Uh, they are.
[00:52:05] Dr. Taz: And then what would you say to somebody today listening who might be fighting a chronic [00:52:10] disease or has a new diagnosis? Or has a family member that they're [00:52:15] fighting for, what would you tell them?
[00:52:16] Dr. Sue Morter: Yes. So in a moment's time, you can stop [00:52:20] the momentum of a runaway train In a moment's time, you reach up and you pull that little line, and [00:52:25] all of a sudden the train starts to slow down. And the moment that that happens, we're moving from [00:52:30] this dis, disregulated, disoriented, chaotic version of [00:52:35] ourselves into and into and into more and more.
[00:52:38] Dr. Sue Morter: A deep sense of [00:52:40] stillness and wisdom that will be the healer that we turn on. The, [00:52:45] the thing that I know is that this very essence that we seek for just reprieve [00:52:50] becomes the animated healer within that we've been seeking. It is the [00:52:55] rest of the story that the protective or performing personality cannot [00:53:00] generate.
[00:53:00] Dr. Sue Morter: We have to surrender that one into something else. The reason it's difficult to [00:53:05] surrender is that we don't know who we are underneath that. What's, what am I gonna be if I'm [00:53:10] not hanging onto that? Right.
[00:53:11] Dr. Taz: Right.
[00:53:11] Dr. Sue Morter: And so what this book is doing is cultivating what is [00:53:15] underneath that so that when you let go, you immediately feel that you're buoyant [00:53:20] and that you're caught by the, the true version of yourself without feeling [00:53:25] like you're just scrambling in the dark, uh, you know, on your own.
[00:53:29] Dr. Sue Morter: It's quite the [00:53:30] opposite of that. We start to feel super
[00:53:31] Dr. Taz: connected. So fascinating. Could. Talk about this forever or for [00:53:35] anyone interested or ready to go on this journey, where can they find the book? Where they, where can they [00:53:40] find you?
[00:53:40] Dr. Sue Morter: Oh, the book is where all, you know, books are sold and all of the all [00:53:45] and uh, and we also have it on my website.
[00:53:48] Dr. Sue Morter: So then, and, and if someone [00:53:50] purchases from our website, we can offer them. Additional support courses and you know, [00:53:55] things that come, bonuses that come with the purchase of the book, just to, you know, guide. Because I know [00:54:00] this conversation is very, very important for people to know that they're supported and that they don't have [00:54:05] to, you know, dive in wholeheartedly, but if they just edge their way in, start [00:54:10] somewhere.
[00:54:10] Dr. Sue Morter: Start somewhere. Yeah. With a little bit, uh, things begin to open and shift for a whole new. New [00:54:15] reality, so,
[00:54:15] Dr. Taz: well, I think it's an important part. I've talked a lot about the five body model where your [00:54:20] energy, you know, is a part of the healing journey and it needs to be accounted for. You know, [00:54:25] when we think about all the different aspects of health, you know, so I feel like this needs [00:54:30] to be in the medical model.
[00:54:31] Dr. Taz: We need to be thinking about it, we need to be assessing it, we need to be asking the [00:54:35] questions about it. Mm-hmm. Because it's hard to get people to fully heal and to, and to get them where they need to [00:54:40] be. You know, regardless of what they're dealing with. If we're gonna ignore this and kind of push [00:54:45] this off to the side.
[00:54:45] Dr. Taz: So thank you so much for being here today. Oh my gosh, I appreciate it. [00:54:50] And, uh, I wanna ask you, you've mentioned it probably four or five times, you've [00:54:55] probably mastered this at this point, but what makes you whole,
[00:54:58] Dr. Sue Morter: uh, you know. [00:55:00] On the edge always. I'm always looking for a deeper version of self. [00:55:05] Yeah. There is.
[00:55:05] Dr. Sue Morter: Yes, I have. I have a certain level of mastery with this. Mm-hmm. That allows me to feel [00:55:10] so much more at peace. I slept on the floor of my closet growing up as a kid. Wow. That's how terrified I was. I didn't [00:55:15] want. I just wanted to look in one direction to make sure I was safe.
[00:55:17] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:55:18] Dr. Sue Morter: And, uh, the fact that [00:55:20] I'm, you know, uh, highly functioning and out in the world and helping, you know, [00:55:25] millions of people is, is confounding to my mind.
[00:55:29] Dr. Taz: Mm-hmm.
[00:55:29] Dr. Sue Morter: In terms of [00:55:30] how did that happen.
[00:55:31] Dr. Taz: Yeah.
[00:55:31] Dr. Sue Morter: And so by sharing these, these things, it is, [00:55:35] uh, I know, uh, a way for people to find their wholeness for me. [00:55:40] What. Makes me feel whole is when I find another [00:55:45] thing that triggers me and I know what to do with it. And [00:55:50] I am blessed by that very trigger when I do the work that's in this [00:55:55] book.
[00:55:55] Dr. Taz: Mm.
